National Nutrition Month (NNM) is a nutrition education and information campaign which focuses on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
Every March, we promote NNM through a different theme, and the theme for 2018 is Go Further with Food.
What does it mean to "go further with food"?
To us, this means being conscious of our food choices to help fuel our bodies appropriately while reducing food waste. Reducing food waste has a positive impact on the environment, families, and the community as a whole.

The Academy’s theme is “Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day,” encouraging personalized healthy eating styles and recognizing that food preferences, lifestyle, cultural and ethnic traditions and health concerns all impact individual food choices.

We are currently in the midst of March, which means we are right in the middle of National Nutrition Month. This year, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly the American Dietetic Association) has brought us the theme “Get Your Plate in Shape.”
What does this mean?AND suggests that we all think about what goes on our plate or in our bowl. Foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low-fat dairy products and lean protein foods contain the nutrients we need without added calories. Over the day, we should include foods from all the food groups to get the variety of nutrients we need. Specific tips include:
Make half your plate fruits and vegetables.
Add fruit to meals and snacks.
Make at least half your grains whole.
Switch to fat-free or low-fat milk.
Vary your protein choices.
Cut back on sodium and empty calories from solid fats and added sugars.

National Nutrition Month® (NNM) was actually initiated in March of 1973 as a week-long event. In 1980, it began to run throughout the entire month of March due to a growing public interest in nutrition.
This March, the theme is Eat Right with Color and the American Dietetic Association suggested that nutrition professionals as well as bloggers write about what “Eat Right with Color” means to them.
