They just exceeded their donation goal of $1,000 for the school year!
This effort was part of the on-going commitment of PDS to social responsibility. A recent addition to this commitment is the FISD TAKE3 GIVE 3 meal program, a new food station concept in the dining hall introduced at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year.
What is TAKE3 GIVE 3?
Every day, this specialty food station offers 3 small-plates with a common theme, such as a healthful ingredient, locally-grown food or ethnic cuisine. For each dish purchased, 3 cents are set aside for donation to a local organization of the students’ choosing, which is determined at the beginning of the school year. All 3 dishes can be bundled as a full meal, resulting in 9 cents of the total purchase price to be set aside for donation.
At PDS, TAKE3 GIVE 3 raises $6-$10 every day, with an average daily fundraising effort of $7!
At the start of the school year, PDS selected the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in a school-wide survey as the local organization of their choice so that their donations could help to fight hunger in their community.
This school-year effort culminated in today’s event. PDS Senior and Student Government Association President, Amit Naik and FISD Dining Director of Dining Services for PDS, David Aycoth, presented the school donation to Steve Cross, Volunteer Coordinator for Second Harvest Bank of Metrolina. Mr. Cross discussed the invaluable work of Second Harvest in more detail so students could gain a further understanding of how their donation will make a difference. (Pics coming soon!)
